Reality tree

I was walking back from the doctors earlier (gastroenteritis if you were wondering - not fun) and I was feeling a little sorry for myself.  Then I happened upon this tree and the colours and the perfect carpet of yellow the leaves had made, made me stop and stare and forget the rest of the world just for a moment.
It started me thinking why was I feeling sorry for myself?  It's not a life threatening illness, here at least.  I have a roof over my head, clothes, a job, I don't live in a famine zone or the arctic ice where conditions make life infinitely harder than I've ever had to deal with.  We take so much for granted - easy access to the doctors being one when really; I'm very definitely not that badly off.  This therefore is my tree of wisdom today - stop and look at something beautiful and get a sense of perspective every once in a while.

  1. Isn't that a stunning picture? I have been amazed this autumn, some trees shed their leaves very early on yet others even now have a lot of leaves left on. Went past some Silver Birches yesterday, green leaves! They looked mummified but they hung on.

So sorry to hear of your illness, I hope it clears soon. Happy Birthday, belatedly to Simon, I hope you can celebrate properly at the weekend.

  2. I turned the corner and the vibrancy of these leaves stopped me in my tracks. It has been an odd one though - the weather's been fooling everything I think. This time last year we had snow by now!
Thank you for the thoughts, hoping I can take him out and actually enjoy it too!

  3. What an absolutely wonderful post, Ruth and what a wise young lady you are. You are so right, we take too much for granted and it takes something as simple as your view of that beautiful tree to make us realise how lucky we are.

I do hope you are feeling better now. Would love to come and visit you sometime, but I had better stay at home for a while!!!!
